The idea
People who know me, know that traveling and seeing the world is a huge part of me. As we say in Dutch: It was fed to me with the porridge spoon. But.. as of May 2021, I´m not on my own. I have a little (not so little anymore) four-year-old munchkin.
These past years, traveling for a longer period of time has not felt like an option. Mothering a baby, and then a toddler, took a lot from me. Believe me, having him is the best decision I ever made, but it definitely hasn´t been smooth sailing. But now: he´s four years old, becoming more confident every day, and he loves exploring new places together. So let´s GO!
After spending the Christmas holidays with family and friends in the Netherlands, we will be flying to Antigua, Guatemala! Instead of backpacking and figuring out in the morning where we will be sleeping at night, I chose the less devil-daring version of seeing the world. When we arrive, my son will be taking part in a sort of school project for traveling families, a.k.a. a "Worldschooling Hub". He´ll be spending his mornings on a coffee finca with other kids, learning about the country, the food, the animals, and the culture, but also (I imagine) just having fun and playing outside. This allows me some time to work (WHAT?! Yes, I´m still working, albeit fewer hours). My hope is also that the Worldschooling Hub will allow the two of us to build connections with other kids and parents, so we can do things together and maybe also help each other out.
We´ll be there for the month of January, and then.. Who knows? Let´s just savour this taste of freedom! ;)
